Effie Australia, giving the awards that celebrate effectiveness a usable database experience

Effie Australia was the second large digital transformation project I undertook at the Advertising Council Australia (ACA). The existing site was unresponsive, clunky and close to being obsolete. It housed 11 years of awards data and had to be migrated with care.

Requirements were to bring the site into an ACA shell, implement a more robust analytics associated with pdf downloads and consider the potential to monetise downloads in the future.

The case history database

Research in the awards space revealed little inspiration, no one was doing it well. I wire-framed a filtering system using key category, award level, agency and client data. The aim was to make the content discoverable and highlight the creative.

Our external developer was busy so, using Advanced Custom Fields, Search & Filter Pro and Vimeo, I developed a new WordPress site which full-filled all the requirements.

Time savings and monetising

The new WordPress website and simple interface meant the business could upload the winner campaign videos and case studies easily in-house in couple of days – when it used to take three weeks for an external company to do it.

The addition of Easy Digital Downloads for storing the case study PDFs meant that, after a trial period of free downloads, the business started charging. This provided value for members, who used a discount code, and an additional revenue stream.
